Gopro Hero 4

So it is official! The Gopro Hero 4 has been announced today! A bit ahead of schedule, but we couldn’t wait anymore, so they had to oblige.

The little marvel will be for sale starting October 5, and we at Goprowoa are looking very much forward to put our hands on it.

Looking back at our pre-release predictions, we hit the nail on all features.
The HERO4 will be available in a Black Edition and a Silver Edition:

Gopro Hero 4 – Initial assessment

The price point of both cameras is not surprising, yet disappointing.

Don’t get me wrong, at $499 for the Black edition you get an incredible 4K video quality at 30frames per seconds. This is unmatched!

However, it does not include the wifi remote, and no image stabilization is mentioned. And what about 720p at 240fps? The chipset definitely allows it (see previous post on the new chipset), and it would be a real added value for slow-motions videos (One might argue even more important than 4K in real life usage…).

On the other hand the silver edition is geared toward more tourist oriented crowd than the adventurous. Arguably, the LCD touchpanel will not be of much appeal to those of us using mounts, poles and attachements…Nevertheless at $399 they will have stiff competition with any other digital camera on the market.

One happy note for both cameras is that virtually all existing mounts and accessories will be compatible with the new camera, so upgrading will not be too much of a headache.

another very happy note, is that my kids will be able to buy themselves a Gopro Hero camera! Indeed, Gopro renew their line with one more new product, the Gopro Hero:

 Gopro Hero ($129)

Yes, for $129 you get a real, full featured gopro camera!

 What we think

The highlight of this Gopro release is, at least from our point of view, definitely the little beast. The new Gopro Hero will enable happiness in a lot of littles’ homes. I know already of my children!

Despite some very disapointing shortcomings, the Gopro Hero 4 Black edition is a jewel for the enthusiasts among us, and we expect to see very soon some amazing shoots at 4K quality and realistic 30frames per seconds. Don’t be shy, send them to us!!

And least, the Gopro Hero 4 Silver edition is at this stage still a puzzle, who the intended audience is. Time will tell…

Finally, we cannot close this post without watching this -as usual- breathtaking promo video of the Gopro Hero 4 with 4K@30fps. Enjoy!

After reading all the reviews, all seems great, but how I wished this one had a built in stabilizer like Sony action camera AS 100V. Would have done world of good to the professional Hero 4 Black edition.
